...Pauline's hikes
July 26...
I certainly understand why people head west on a regular basis to get their mountain fix. However, there is one thing...I love the mountains but can do without the hordes...
I am by no means an ultra hiker or even an experiences hiker though I have logged a good number of hours on the trail...but having said that, I have become a bit of a hiking snob. The amount of people on the trails in Jasper and Banff made me very cranky. We had no choice, Patsy had to get up earlier..She may not have liked it but when we reached Sulphur Skyline in Jasper with only 6 other people, it was magical. When we got to the top of Wilcox Pass in the Columbia Icefields there was no doubt that the earlier the better...even Patsy admitted as much.
In Waterton Patsy got a hiking break, I hired a guide for a day and a half. Dana was awesome. A bit shy at first but totally knowledgeable. Although I had recommendations on favourite hikes from both Pat's friend Cindy and my cousin, they are the busier trails and I did not want to hike with lots of people. Dana suggested Goat Lake and on to Avion Ridge. Wow! It was long and steep, using goat trails but spectacular vistas and for the longest time only Dana and I were on these trails.
No one else...!
So all in all I was happy camper...hiker...
