Today we hit the trail leaving Manitoba and travelling across Saskatchewan. While it takes 3 days to cross Ontario...you can cross Saskatchewan in 1 day...2 hours on, 2 hours off...2 hours on, 2 hours off...It 's not like you are really driving anyway...you are simply holding the steering wheel.....
Shortly after leaving Richer Manitoba this morning, we drove across the middle of the country...really...

So there we were, half way between here and there...but remember no matter where you go there you are...
For our birding friends, we have seen very few birds. Two nests that we believe were Osprey nests and a small hawk of sorts. But today... as we were driving we saw what looked like huge piles of salt along the road side. Chaplin Lake is the second largest saline water body in Canada. (do you know what the largest is? ...answer tomorrow).
Then we rounded a bend (there was literally one bend in the road...) and we came upon Reed Lake Saskatchewan, which is also a saline lake and is an IBA ( Important Bird and Biodiversity Area ) It has been identified globally important for the conservation of bird populations. Apparently it is also home to half of Canada's Pelican population...I wonder where the other half are...
All in all it has been another very long day but with a number of surprises. Tomorrow off to Calgary...continuing our Canada 150 Cross Canada Tour.
Oh yes...the answer to yesterday's question in order: Nunavut, Quebec, Northwest Territories...
